expound: implies a careful, often elaborate and learned explanation: the professor ~ the theory of relativity.
explicate: adds to expound the idea of developed and detailed analysis: a passage that the critics have been inspired to ~ at length.
elucidate: stresses a throwing light on through explanation, exposition and illumination: a news report that ~ the reason for the crime.
interpret: adds to explain the need of imagination, sympathy and special knowledge: ~ the play as an ALLEGORY about good and evil. (allegory寓言,指用某事物表达其他事物，有时讽喻)
explain解释: 使变得清楚易理解,通用, expound阐述: 详细的学术性解释, explicate: 还多了分析，elucidate阐明: (参考字面意思)使变得明亮，interpret: 涉及想象力理解力和专门知识的解释。
