rise: is used in reference to persons or animals that get up from a lying or sitting position: ~ every morning at five; or to things that seem to come up into view or to lift themselves up: hills ~ing from the plain; or to fluid that is sent upward by some natural force: watched the river ~ing.


arise: comes close to rise but is somewhat more rhetorical or poetic: ~ slowly, brushing the dust of the street from his clothes.


ascend: suggests a continuous or progressive upward movement or climbing: the sun ~s the sky until noon.  （progressive逐渐的，进行的，来自词根GRESS表示to walk or go走，语法上progressive和continuous相同，都表示持续进行in grammar, progressive means the same as continuous，如I am running我在跑步是present progressive tense现在进行时==present continuous tense。 "渐"江是古代水名，现在叫"浙"江，水上升比人上台阶更持续更缓慢，所以中文中，逐渐比逐步更持续更缓慢）


mount: close to ascent, implies a gradual upward movement toward an even higher level or degree: felt her hopes ~ as the race went on.  （gradual逐步的来自词根GRAD表示step,degree脚步台阶程度，字面本意是step by step一步一步的，如本条解释，如a gradual increase in prices逐步涨价，逐步还有按照步骤的意思）


soar: usually connotes a continuous, often swift, ascent into high altitudes especially intellectually, spiritually, or aesthetically: the brilliant product of ~ing imagination.   （altitude高度，指和地面或海平面的垂直距离refers to vertical distance above the earth's surface or sea level，比height高，如fly at an altitude of 10000 meters在一万米高空飞行，如a wall two meters in height两米高的墙）
